Day 6 was a rest day (and in terms of motorcycling, there's
nothing to talk about).
We awoke at some point during the morning and met each other for
breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel. The mission of the
day was to do some laundry. You'd think this would be an easy
task, wouldn't you?
After breakfast we headed to Wal-Mart. There was talk of
riding there, but the weather was simply too nice, so we walked the
mile-or-so to the store. Steve needed some new shoes, Hal and
John needed various items of no particular interest, and even though
I needed nothing, I came out with a package of bungie cords and a
pair of sunglasses to replace the pair some Mexican in Nacozari was
now sporting on his mug.
On the way back to the hotel, we spied one of those stores where
everything is a dollar. More random purchases and finally we
made it back to the hotel to gather our laundry.
We were given directions to the laundromat, and we headed out the
door with out clothes stuffed into the plastic Wal-Mart bags.
The first laundromat we tried opened at 0900. It was 0940
when we arrived, but they were closed. I guess since Douglas
is so close to the border, they're on Mexican time too.
The
second laundromat was a few blocks away, so we headed there.
We went exactly where we were told it would be, but after asking for
additional directions, we found out the laundromat was now a video
store.
The third laundromat we were told about was several more blocks
down the road. It was at this point we found the shopping
cart...
Now what's funnier than 4 grown men walking aimlessly down the
street carrying their laundry in plastic Wal-Mart bags? That
would be 4 grown men pushing the aforementioned laundry down the
street in a shopping cart. (It was damned funny at the time).
Doing laundry brought back lots of memories from college... (I
digress)...
As we watched the washer go through its various cycles
in an attempt to clean our clothes, the
conversation consisted of which washer was better... a front loading
one or a top loading one. We were living on the edge!
On the way back to the hotel with our fresh-smelling duds, we
spotted a library with free Internet access. Since I had my
camera with me, I popped in and uploaded a few pictures to my Web
site to share with my friends.
I did spot this dood from Houston...

He created it himself from a VW frame. It was made from
thousands of little pieces of metal (about 1" X 3" pieces) tac-welded
together. I wish I had that kind of free time.
The rest of
the folks started showing up midday. The plan was to meet up in
the restaurant that evening for dinner and a discussion about the
upcoming week. I remember little of what was said, but I
stayed long enough to get my T-shirt.

Gangplank likes the new shirt.
I excused myself a little early and headed to the room to get some
sleep before heading back into Mexico the next day.
It was a lazy boring day, but welcomed at the same time. There
would be enough excitement and riding over the next several days to
make up for it.
